Fatal crash on US 1 in Jensen Beach causes major traffic delays

JENSON BEACH, Fla. — A fatal two-vehicle crash in Jensen Beach caused chaos on US 1 for much of Monday.

The accident happened at 9:45 a.m. on US 1 near the intersection of Eugenia Street NW, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Investigators said a 2017 Infiniti Q60 driven by a 22-year-old Port Saint Lucie man was traveling northbound in the second left lane of US 1 north of Eugenia Street.

Meanwhile, a 2021 Chevrolet Colorado pickup truck driven by a 40-year-old Port St. Lucie man was traveling southbound in the left-turn lane of US 1.

FHP said the truck began a left turn toward an ExxonMobil gas station along US 1. However, the front of the car collided with the right side of the truck.

Martin County Fire and Rescue declared the truck driver, whose name has not been released, dead at the scene. The driver of the car, FHP, suffered “disabling injuries”.

FHP said the wreck was still under investigation.

Northbound lanes remain closed at 2.45pm

It was not immediately clear whether any charges would be filed.
