The state board of education has endorsed a rule that requires school districts to notify parents about bathrooms that aren’t separated by biological sex.

MIAMI.- The state education board meeting in Orlando endorsed a rule contained in the “Parents’ Rights in Education Act” that requires school districts to notify those responsible for students which bathrooms and locker rooms “are not separated by sex biological at birth.

The 40 or so people who signed up to speak about the rule were divided. Some viewed the law as a way to provide transparency and others described it as potentially harmful to LGBTQ students.

“This rule is ridiculous and unnecessary,” said Debbie Deland, who opposes the bathroom rule. “I feel like we’re checking the genitalia.”

In contrast, Liz Suits, a parent who supports the rule, said that “we are the final decision makers, the supervisors, so parents need to be fully informed about what is going on in their child’s educational environment, including where they are. they can attend to personal hygienic needs.”
