Holiday travel woes continue in South Florida across the country

Miami-Dade County, Florida – A massive winter storm affecting the northern United States continued to affect vacationers in South Florida and across the country on Monday.

Delays and cancellations continued at Miami International Airport, with some travelers reporting having to wait days for their next flight.

“There were a lot of cancellations,” said the legendary Sharpe, who flew to Decatur, Illinois. “I’ve been here for two days.”

More than 40 flights were canceled at MIA and about 100 at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport on Christmas Day alone.

“I just got off the cruise ship yesterday,” said Wang Dawei, who was flying from Miami to Toronto. “So I stayed one night at the hotel.”

On Monday, officials at Miami International Airport reported about 25 flight cancellations and 45 or so delays as of noon.

They expect the Friday before New Year’s Day and the Friday after New Year’s Day to be the busiest travel days ahead.

Officials advised passengers to keep an eye on the weather and check with their airlines before heading to the airport.
