House committee withdraws subpoena against former President Trump on Jan. 6

A House committee announced Jan. 6 that it would drop its subpoena against former President Donald Trump, whose investigation is drawing to a close.

Chairman Bennie Thompson of Mississippi wrote in a letter: “Given that our investigation is drawing to a close, the Select Committee can no longer pursue the specific information covered by the subpoena.”

“Therefore, by this letter, I hereby formally withdraw the subpoena issued to former President Trump and inform you that he is no longer obligated to comply or present a record of responding to the subpoena,” Thompson said.

Trump was subpoenaed by the committee in October to obtain more documents and information related to the panel’s investigation into what happened when Trump supporters stormed the nation’s capital on Jan. 6, 2021.

The committee dropped a list of subpoenas for other witness testimony during the court investigation.

Trump has been handed over to the Justice Department Potential Criminal investigation of multiple separate charges.
