Mega Millions Tuesday jackpot beats estimated $565 million

The holiday shopping season — at least for Mega Millions lottery ticket buyers — is picking up speed, as officials said the estimated jackpot for Tuesday night’s drawing surpassed $5 billion.

As of late Monday, lottery officials estimated Tuesday’s prize at $565 million — more than $293 million if delivered in cash — after no lucky winner held all six numbers from the final draw on Friday. Match the lottery.

Tuesday’s drawing will take place at 11:00 p.m. ET.

Lottery tickets sold in California and Florida on Oct. 14 shared the final Mega Millions jackpot of $502 million. Since then, the lottery’s top prize has been re-established over 20 drawings.

Since the Mega Millions lottery opened in 2002, 11 people have won jackpots of $500 million or more, lottery officials said. The record Mega Millions jackpot of more than $1.5 billion was won in 2018, with a jackpot of more than $1.3 billion being won in Illinois in July.

Biggest US lottery jackpot ever November was $2.04 billion. Winners purchased Lucky Powerball tickets in Southern California.
