Coral Gables, Fla. — Miami Hurricanes soar eight spots in AP men’s college basketball poll defeated No. 6 Virginia Last week in Coral Gables.
Miami (12-1, 3-0 Atlantic Coast Conference) made the most progress of any team this week, climbing to 14th.
It’s the Hurricanes’ highest ranking since the 2017-18 season.
The loss sent Virginia down seven spots in the polls, but still one spot ahead of 13th-place Miami.
Both schools are ahead of No. 17 perennial powerhouse Duke (10-3, 1-1 ACC) and No. 25 North Carolina (9-4, 1-1 ACC).
After a week off for the holidays, the ‘Canes return to the hardwood on Wednesday night, where they take on Vermont at 8 p.m. at Watsco Center
Miami returns to ACC action Friday afternoon with a trip to Notre Dame (7-5, 0-2 ACC) in South Bend, Indiana.
