North Miami Beach, Florida. (WSVN) – The North Miami Beach Police Department is investigating a homicide involving a young child and her mother.
Authorities gathered at an apartment complex near Northeast 10th Avenue and 163rd Street early Tuesday morning.
The mother of the man, identified as Jellisa Amoya Baxter, 24, called 911 and confessed to killing her 3-year-old daughter, according to police. When police arrived, they found Baxter in her living room.
At the scene, police found the victim’s body lying on the floor with “several deep stab wounds” to the chest, neck and face, according to the arrest report.
The child was pronounced dead at the scene.
Baxter was taken into custody without incident.
Neighbors were sad to hear the news.
“It’s sad because she’s a little girl,” Julia Gutierrez said in Spanish.
Another woman said she was terrified for her four children.
“You need to ask for help,” the woman said. “You can’t do that to a child.”
Baxter was charged with first-degree murder and aggravated child abuse.
