Mother who killed 3-year-old daughter faces judge

West Miami-Dade, FL. (WSVN) – Mother who killed three-year-old daughter appears in court.

Wednesday morning, 24 Jelisa Amoya Baxter Facing a Miami-Dade Circuit Court judge in West Miami-Dade.

On Tuesday morning, she tried to strangle her daughter before stabbing her to death in an apartment near NE 10th Avenue and 163rd Street, according to police.

Baxter called 911 and turned himself in.

Judge Mindy S. Glazer stated the reasons for her arrest.

“Miss. Baxter, you are charged with one count of first-degree murder and one count of aggravated child abuse,” Glazer said. “I’ll appoint a public defender for you.”

When police arrived at the crime scene on Tuesday, they found Baxter standing next to her child with stab wounds to her face, neck and chest.

Moments later, an officer was seen leading the 3-year-old out of the apartment.

“First-degree murder is not a bond. It’s $10,000 when you count two counts of serious child abuse,” Glazer said. “You will be arraigned before a judge in 21 days. You also have immigration detention.”

Baxter will be released from bail at the Knight Correctional Center in Turner Guilford.

Investigators are still determining what led to the violence.
