NBA suspends 11 players for Magic Pistons scrimmage

New York — Detroit guard Killian Hayes and Orlando Magic’s Moritz Wagner each suspended multiple games because of their role in the meleewhile the NBA suspended eight Magic players one game each for leaving the bench area during the altercation.

Hayes hit Wagner in the back of the head and was suspended for three games without pay. Wagner was suspended two games and the Pistons’ Hamidou Diallo was suspended one game by NBA executive vice president Joe Dumars, a former Pistons star player and executive.

Cole Anthony, RJ Hampton, Gary Harris, Kevin Harris, Admiral Schofield, Franz Wagner, Mo Bamba and Wendell Carter Jr. were all suspended one game.

Wagner kicked off the brawl by checking Hayes’ hip to the Detroit bench. Hayes got up and hit him on the back, and Wagner appeared to be briefly knocked down. The Magic players then rushed out of their bench area, worried about their teammates.

Anthony, Bamba, Carter Hampton and Gary Harris will be suspended for Friday’s game against Washington. Kevon Harris, Schofield and Franz Wagner will be suspended for Orlando’s next game at Oklahoma City on Jan. 4

The 11 suspensions will result in forfeited salary of more than $500,000. Hayes stands to lose the most, about $121,000.
