The $685 Million Mega Millions Jackpot Approaches

The Mega Millions jackpot increased to $685 million ahead of Friday night’s draw, giving players the chance to ring in the New Year with a bigger prize in their bank accounts.

There have been 21 consecutive draws without a win due to odds of 1 in 302.6 million. This keeps the top prize steadily increasing week after week.

An estimated $685 million in prize money will be awarded to winners who choose to be paid through annuities, annual checks over 29 years. Nearly all winners chose cash, and Friday night’s drawing was estimated at $347.8 million.

It’s the biggest jackpot since the $2.04 billion Powerball jackpot was won in California on Nov. 8. The winner of this record prize has not yet been announced.

Mega Millions takes place in 45 states plus Washington, D.C. and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
